I gave this book to my 18 year old Granddaughter for Christmas. She had announced that she was Buddhist. She really did not know what Buddism was - she liked the meditation aspect and the reincarnation belief. She read it and said she was now deciding if Buddism was right for her. Mission accomplished. Making sound decisions based on fact and faith are the basics of leading a happy life.

Great overview of all the varieties of Buddhism. If you are just getting started yourself or want to know what a loved one finds appealing in Buddhism, this is a good book for you. It might also be appealing if you are well versed in ONE area of Buddhism, but are wondering what the different variations of Buddhism believe and practice.This is NOT an indepth exploration of any one path or area of Buddhism.

I really liked this book and I learned a lot about Buddhism. It teaches the basics without the existential philosophizing which most authors on this subject tend to trap themselves into from the onset. Thank you Jonathan Landaw for clear and concise text.

Great introduction to Buddhism. Very easy to read and understand. I really like the format, The authors come from diverse backgrounds and experience with Buddhism. This is an excellent starting foundation to understand Buddhism since there are so many approaches (e.g. Zen, Tibetan, etc.)

These dummy books are stupendous. I read this book and understand the basics tenets of Buddhism of the four noble truths and the eightfold path. It was also nice to learn about other aspects and the differences between the various sects (Theravada, Mahayana and Tibetan) Buddhism. A must buy for anyone interested in learning more and practicing the dharma!

I bought this book seeking some insight into what Buddhism is as a Christian. This book was very well and concisely written, an excellent compilation of over 2000yrs of history. Very happy

I've been studying awhile - and I have to say I found this book so very interesting. It may be a bit much for absolute beginners but really spells it out - and very easy to read. I really highly recommend this, for anyone who doesn't know it ALL

Covers all the basics of Buddhism and a list of books you can read to dive in further. Most of the teachings are basically what Jesus said, which is rather humorous to me.
